LE NEUROPATHIC PAIN NETWORK LANCE LE PREMIER SITE
WEB DÉDIÉ UNIQUEMENT À L'AIDE DES PERSONNES
SOUFFRANT DE DOULEUR NEUROGÈNE
La douleur neuropathique touche plus de 15 millions
de personnes en Europe et aux Etats-Unis
FRANCFORT, ALLEMAGNE, 15 octobre 2004 – Le Neuropathic Pain Network (NPN - Réseau de la douleur neuropathique) a annoncé aujourd'hui le lancement du site www.NeuropathicPainNetwork.org, premier site Web dédié uniquement à l'aide des personnes atteintes de douleur neuropathique (neurogène). Ce site, qui sera lancé en anglais, comprendra des renseignements sur le NPN et un historique de la douleur neuropathique pour les personnes souffrant de cette maladie. Le contenu de ce site sera également fourni en français, allemand et espagnol très prochainement.
« La mission du NPN est de soutenir activement les personnes atteintes de douleur neuropathique en leur permettant de mieux supporter leur douleur, d'obtenir le meilleur traitement possible et en définitive, d'améliorer leur qualité de vie » a déclaré Harry Kletzko, président du NPN et vice-président de l'Association allemande contre la douleur. « Le nouveau site donnera au NPN une plate-forme pour instruire le public sur les signes et les symptômes de la douleur neuropathique et lui permettra d'identifier les moyens de combattre cette maladie dévastatrice ».
La douleur neuropathique se caractérise par une sensation de brûlure, de picotement et/ou de choc et provient d'une blessure ou d'un dysfonctionnement du système nerveux qui peut être difficile à gérer. La douleur peut s'avérer si forte que certains patients éprouvent une sensation de brûlure insupportable lorsque leur peau entre en contact avec un vêtement. La douleur neurogène est souvent sous-diagnostiquée et mal traitée.
Le NPN a été lancé en mai 2004 et se compose actuellement de sept organisations, parmi lesquelles Deutsche Schmerzglia e.V., American Chronic Pain Association, Action on Pain et Swedish Pain League.
Le NPN est la première coalition internationale d'organisations unies dans le but d'aider les personnes souffrant de douleur neuropathique. La séance d'ouverture du Comité de direction du Neuropathic Pain Network (NPN - Réseau de la douleur neuropathique) s'est tenue aujourd'hui afin d'explorer les différentes façons d'aider les personnes atteintes de douleur neuropathique.

 Dr. César Amescua
Dr. César Amescua studied medicine in México City at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, from 1974 to 1980. After graduation worked a two year internship and then specialized in Anesthesia at the Hospital General de México.From 1984 to 1986. Studied two years of Pain Management at the Pain Clinic of the Instituto Nacional de Cancerología in México City where he later spent 3 more years as Coordinator of the Pain Clinic until 1989. He is Professor of Pain Management at the the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, school of Medicine.
Dr. Amescua has worked with Cáncer patients, and neuropathic pain patients for 20 years and he has participated in more than one hundred medical meetings as an invited professor.
 Raymond Berggren
Raymond Berggren is the chairman of the
Swedish Association
for Pain, www.levamedsmarta.com,
founded in 1990. Raymond's wife is a long term
sufferer of neurological pain.
The goal of the Swedish Association for Pain is to build
an organization that meets the rising needs of pain patients
in Sweden.
 Penney Cowan
Penney Cowan is the founder and
executive director of the American Chronic Pain Association
(ACPA), www.theacpa.org.
The ACPA provides peer support and education in pain management
skills to people with pain and their families.
The ACPA also works to build awareness about chronic pain
among professionals, decision makers, and the general public.
For the past 24 years, Penney has been an advocate and
consumer representative for pain issues and lives with
chronic pain
herself.
 Harry Kletzko
Harry Kletzko is vice president of the
German Pain League, www.schmerzliga.de,
the country`s largest pain organization for patients with chronic
pain. He has a lot of experience
in working with chronic pain patients and medical physicians.
20 years ago, he was a founder of the biggest German pain
physician organization.

 Dr. Dworkin
Dr. Dworkin is currently chair of the Neuropathic Pain Special Interest Group of the International Association for the Study of Pain, co-chair of the chair of the Initiative on Methods, Measurement, and Pain Assessment in Clinical Trials (IMMPACT), and chair of the International Conference on the Mechanisms and Treatment of Neuropathic Pain, which is held annually. He is a member of the Editorial Boards of Pain and Journal of Pain, and has served as a consultant to and member of the Anesthetic and Life Support Drugs Advisory Committee of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and as a member of the Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella Working Group and the Shingles Working Group of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In 2005, he received the American Pain Society’s Wilbert E. Fordyce Clinical Investigator Award for his contributions to the field of clinical pain research.
